New TV Ad: “Clarity”
If you’ve been watching TV in Montana in the past week, you’ve witnesed Conrad Burns’ latest misleading ads, in which he trys to hide behind Democratic Senator Max Baucus in the final week of the election.
Today the Tester campaign released an ad featuring Senator Baucus that sets the record straight: Baucus supports Jon Tester in next Tuesday’s election — not Conrad Burns.
The AP has more on this story.

I am an independent. I am tempted to vote for Jon and am hoping he wins. But unlike the voting public that has been “dumbed down” by the two parties and the media I refuse to subject myself to to choosing the lesser of two evils. In this sense I am referring to the two parties…not Jon and Conrad. Because the two parties are on the same side on campaign finance reform and won’t pass the legislation necessary to allow the formation of a third party I will vote for neither. I also don’t vote AGAINST candidates….only FOR candidates.
If Jon’s strategists were really in touch with the voters they would right now have him calling for the Dems to stop all negative advertising on his behalf and make an issue out of it. The vast majority of voters
have already made up their minds. I realize negative ads work. But at this point they’ve done their work and only serve to alienate voters like myself and everybody I’ve talked to unless they are died in wool Dems or Repubs. I can tell you its hurting Testers turnout of undecideds and independents that would swing his way.
MSMBC has one of Jons ads on now as one of the 5 dirtiest ads on TV. That really makes us Montanan’s proud. It’s time for Jon to not listen to his handlers, take the high road, denounce negative advertising and I believe he’ll get a net gain out of it. Thats what it will take to impress me enough to vote for him rather than leave that area of my ballot blank.
PS. Wouldn’t hurt to evoke the name of Mike Mansfield either from here on out. Good Luck! Hope Jon wins even if I can’t vote for him at this point.

Response to previous entry. I too completely understand where you are coming from on the negative ads. I also agree with you on that issue. However, how can say “Good Luck, and “Hope Jon wins” in the same sentence that you state your inability to vote at this point. If you REALLY want Jon to win…then vote. That is the only true way to show your support. So please everyone…lets vote!

As last-minute campaigning becomes frantic, the “hard-sells” increasingly backfire on voters who are undecided, the very voters most likely to sway to the Democratic candidate.
In short, the GOP’s agendas are largely based on the very aggressive, knee-jerk reactions that many voters are increasingly rejecting. Hence, the Democratic candidate’s tones (agendas) increasingly resonate with a growing majority of undecided voters!
* Tired of all of the mudslinging? Still undecided? The Democratic candidate comes to mind!

The election is boiling down, do not get complacent, Burn is coming on strong. Here are some tools to ensure vicory.
The website: http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2006/100USSenatorApproval060817Net.HtM
ranks Burns last - 100th.
The Montana Standard today quote says: “From Burns and fellow Republicans, we hear constantly that Tester supported a bill in 2005 that ‘raised taxes on 16,000 Montana businesses.’ Not true.”
Burn’s continues to use Sen. Max Baucus in his ads even when Baucus asked him not to. Baucus supports Tester.
Please fight back in the last few days before the election, Burns is gaining ground and the latest poll from pollster.com shows Tester with a one point lead. Get Burns on the defensive for the last few days. Hit the points home that he tells untruths, he has the lowest approval rating of all senators and he gives bush a rubber stamp, and gives big lobbiest like Abramoff and big oil companies everything they want.
Please win!!!!!!!!!!!!
Burns has been a rubber stamp for Bush’s Administration in Iraq.

I agree with Terry above, both about the independent political course and the tactic of disowning the negative ads. That is really good advice for today’s stage of this race.
On another note, I am not a Montanan. I live in Virginia but I am a contributor to the Tester campaign because I believe he has the vision to be a good leader, something this country sorely needs. I am an electric cooperator, having been a Manager. I know that the co-ops in Montana are supporting Burns. It is their big mistake.
Jon tester should appeal directly to the co-op members in Montana. Many of them do not care about or understand why Burns is preferred by co-ops. Mr. Tester has the opportunity to directly address those members by noting agreement with Senator Burns on the issue excessive rates for rail shipment of fuel, which is the lynchpin of the co-ops supporting Burns.
Moreover, and more importantly, he could say that the electric co-ops need to be leaders towards energy independence and he would work for funding for renewable fuels, NOTABLY saying he supports the “25 by ‘25″ program of 25 percent renewable energy by 2025.
He could promise to support funding for that goal. Take away the weak lynchpin of electric co-op voters to Burns.
I wish you all good luck and I will stay up and watch the Montana returns.
PS Is Mr Tester an electric co-op member?
